Simple Italian

For a long time, I have wanted to broaden my horizons with the food I cook. Currently, the meals I am comfortable cooking consist of pasta, grilled cheese, and mac ‘n cheese. With my heavy course load and extra circulars, it is also difficult to find time to try new things; however, this blog provides a perfect opportunity to try something new and share my experiences.

In writing this blog, I hope to find a new recipes to experiment and build my confidence in the kitchen. I want to try recipes from all different types of food, but this week I decided to start with my favorite: Italian. After reading several authentic Italian blogs and cookbooks, I decided to keep it simple and take a recipe from the blog “Pinch of Yum”.

The first recipe I chose was a pasta sauce, because I already know how to make pasta, so I figured sauce was a pretty safe place to start.  The recipe I chose was called “Basic Garlic Butter Tomato Sauce” and overall, this recipe was very simple and turned out well. I was encouraged, because the recipe said it was very adaptable and easy to cover up mistakes. Next time, I will probably make more of it, because the recipe did not yield enough for the amount of pasta I made. In addition, now that I am comfortable with the recipe, I would like to try possibly adding less tomatoes and more garlic for a different taste.

Although this was not the most authentic Italian cuisine I could have made, I recommend it as a starting place for those, like myself, just beginning to cook. If you would like to try it too, the recipe can be found here: Recipe
